Fantastic Waffen-SS M40 Double Decal Helmet, Published

$19,500.00

For the last decade and a half, this exquisite example has been in one of the world’s most prestigious collections. The helmet was acquired in the 1970s by a US Soldier stationed in Bad Tölz, and was later published in Mike Beaver’s “SS Helmets,” and also in “SS-Steel” — pp 116 and 120 respectively. The helmet features a very fine condition ET64 production M40 shell, badged with an M40 pattern ET shield and CA Pocher pattern party shield. Closeups of the shields reveal the desired characteristics collectors look for in age and wear on these decal designs. The finish is 98%, in the dark grey-green ET schiefergrau finish for the M40 specification. The liner and un-marked chinstrap are unaltered original to the helmet. The liner is size 57 marked, and the dome stamp is clearly visible inside. The relatively low heat lot number, 280, seems to correspond to the early to mid- 1940 production time frame. The presence of the mixture of ET and Pocher designs is well documented in the ET production line, especially during later 1939 production, where Pocher runes and ET party shields appear, as well as the reverse combination. Recent uploads of the YouTuber “Begleitkommando,” show sharp, clear videos of M40 double decal helmets being worn during an inspection of the troops. One of the most iconic and sought after SS types, this helmet will make a proud centerpiece in the collection. Ownership history will also be provided at time of sale. COA accompanies.
