This specimen is an M35 Heer helmet by ET, size 62. The heat lot number is #4523. The helmet is a standard 1939 dated piece, with the ET feldgrau “pea green” factory finish overpainted with t darker smooth finish feldgrau. Other specimens with this characteristic tend to center on the 1940 period, pre “reissue” of helmets. So the dark feldgrau was meant to update the finish and provide a subduing effect. In the process, this soldier also upgraded the look of his national shield with hand re-painting of the colors. This re-touch has the look of old porcelain, with the fine age-crazing of the paint over the decades. I have seen another example just like this one in a size 64, and it is a twin example. The liner and strap are great, with the liner named twice, with the owner’s initial and last name; then his initials in excellent cursive script. An outstanding Heer helmet for the early war Heer collection. COA accompanies.
