Incredibly Rare Waffen-SS Panzer Beret

The chances of having a real SS panzer beret available in one’s collecting lifetime are quite small. These headgear are incredibly rare and were only used for a fairly short period of time at the late pre-war to very early war stages. This beautiful piece consists of the correct circular twill wool upper, with hand applied beautifully patina’d SS unique Panzer beret insignia. The interior shows the crash helmet portion of this piece of headgear, which consists of a wool covered framework that is designed to protect the head. This is lined with an oil cloth type of black lining which was common to the SS and the Army panzer berets. There is a square VA 1938 acceptance stamp in white ink in the upper rear portion of the lining. The four vent holes are present and in good condition. Overall the Panzer Beret is in wonderful service used condition, with the outer cover having endured the most wear and patina from use. There are a couple of expected small holes and a couple of period repairs to the wool outer cover. (Collector reports that the skull was restored, applied the same way as the eagle which was original to the piece when found).
