This helmet is a fine example of the iconic M34 medium duty helmet worn almost universally by the Sicherheitsdienst (SD), and by certain Concentration Camp Guard personnel. This example shows the smooth semi-gloss feldgrau factory finish, with leather liner and integral chinstrap. The helmet is decorated with a set of CA Pocher runic and party shields in proper configuration; and underneath those can be seen a set of CA Pocher SS shields in reverse order. A close look at the party shield will reveal the full shadow of the runic shield underneath. The views of the runic shield show the inner borders of the runes and other expected features of authenticity, such as the wrinkling that sometimes occurred when a decal was user-applied. The helmet bears the owner’s initials and shows moderate service use. These helmets are generally under-valued in comparison with their actual role as direct, organized perpetrators of the Holocaust; committing behind-lines atrocities against civilian populations, including especially Jewish and partisan groups–in the hundreds of thousands if not millions– by themselves.
