This is a great example of a likely Hermann Goring panzer division enlisted schiffchen cap. The cap is made from black wool, with black polished cotton lining and the markings: W56 (Weite 56; Size 56). The maker of this cap produced for the W-SS, KM and HG, and sometimes the wool for the latter two could be the very dark blue color. In this case, it is black. The insignia are correct HG eagle and roundel, with no sign of other insignia having been on the cap. The ‘false piping’ stitching technique is not observed on this example. The consignor reports having obtained the cap many years ago from Grenadier.
