This is a superb quality SD officer’s M36 style uniform jacket, fully originally badged with exquisite quality bullion SD diamond and blank cuff title on the lower left sleeve. Bullion cord SD type shoulder boards and SD / SS-Hauptsturmführer (captain) helped collar tabs and bullion cord edging adorn the collar. A very interesting accent to this piece is the German army officer’s Eagle affixed to the upper left sleeve — instead of the typical SS pattern Eagle. As mentioned, the insignia are perfectly original to the piece, and this Eagle is no exception. The fine stitching, viewed up close, denotes skilled tailor application. And while unusual, this practice was not uncommon among SS who had prior service in the Army. Many, many wartime photographs bear this out. Another interesting note to this tunic also is the statini film movie studio stamping in the interior, including one in the sleeve lining, which present a timestamp of originality to this tunic, that it was in Czechoslovakia when the war ended and was kept there for use in movies and films for propaganda purposes. As most collectors / historians know, there were depos full of SS items left over in what is now Czech Republic. And the former Communist government used these in many cases as props for World War II period movies– with original items. When the wall came down in the early ’90s, many of these items sold out to the west and became premier items in collections. This is no exception. It is the one finest SD officer’s garments I have seen and is worthy of the finest SS uniform collection. COA accompanies.
