This ET64 M40 SS helmet, #429, is an outstanding combat example. The finish is the nice ET M40 dark greenish-grey schifergrau, with a single ET pattern runic shield on the right. At first glance the shield appears to be damaged, but actually it shows the abrasion of whitewash removal, as does the rest of the helmet surface. No modern touching. Photographic evidence shows us that the SS (and wehrmacht) routinely whitewashed their helmets, and removed the whitewash with a wet brush, when it was no longer needed. This practice took place in training, and in actual combat. Aside from this normal use wear, the liner and strap are complete and in very good condition. There is some patina to the interior, due to long-term combat wear in all weather. A great combat example for the collection. COA accompanies.
