Early SS “Pre-RZM” M18 Commercially Produced Helmet

This helmet is the exact same shell design and manufacture of the double decal SS counterpart shown on page 184 of Ludwig Baer’s Iconic book “History of the German Steel Helmet, 1916-1945.” This helmet shows the commercial version of the M1918 liner, pop-riveted into the shell. The liner itself appears to be re-used old stock, being mint, but bearing a name and 1918 date. A testament to the disorganized manner of SS equipment procurement in the early 1930s (same applied to armaments and uniform items). Overall a fine example of a rare, early SS helmet from an advanced decades old collection. COA accompanies.
