Outstanding Waffen-SS General’s Visor Cap, Possibly Attributed
$48,200.00
For sale is this beautiful artifact, possibly but not certainly, the property of RK w/ Oakleaves and Swords Träger, Sylvester Stadler. The cap itself has been closely inspected by the best experts, and it is original period – used, with original insignia, consisting of a cupal set of Wagner eagle and Deschler skull. The the cap has been handed down through a lineage of top collectors in Europe and the United States, and has been featured in Jan Meland and Trond Elvans’ famous book, “Heer and SS Visor Caps and Uniforms,” which is truly an excellent work, highlighting the best characteristics of these types of caps. This cap is exquisite. Made by Erel – “Extra” it shows authentic, moderate service use throughout. The insignia match in condition and the Totenschaedel covers the famous Erel vent hole in the front. The cap shows fine workmanship, “doeskin” construction and the initials “S.S.”– possibly for Sylvester Stadler. The collector / owner and others who have handled this cap believe it could have been Stadler’s for the main reason that there is only one SS general in the 9 November 1944 Dienstaltersliste with the initials “SS”. There is no other SS general with a surname beginning with an S and a first name beginning with an S – Except Sylvester Stadler. This list covers SS-Standartenführer through SS Oberst-Gruppenführer.
The actual initials ‘SS’ stuck in the leather sweatband have been in the cap since it was first advertised for sale in 2009. Without a ‘smoking gun’ photograph of Stadler wearing this cap — or other hard evidence– the cap can only be priced as a premier example of a service-used SS general’s cap. This is an especially nice example, with no flaws. By itself a truly exquisite hat, a once in a lifetime collector item, COA accompanies.
