This is an outstanding example of an SS style camouflage smock, produced in Italian camouflage material (and in this case, bearing a possibly Italian surname). These smocks were used heavily by the Luftwaffe ground forces engaged in fighting in Italy, and in early 1944 were issued bulk to the 12th SS Panzer Division ,,Hitlerjugend”, where they featured widely throughout the Normandy campaign. The smock is well documented within the collector community, and comes from a top level collector who consigned it here. The garment itself shows moderate service wear, with still vibrant colors. There is no damage, but a stain on one sleeve that possibly represents and old dried blood stain. A great period photo from the web shows a LW troop wearing exactly one of these.
