SS-Totenkopfverbände Sleeve Raute
This is an exquisite example of the SS specialty badge (raute) for concentration camp guard staff. The skull is finely rendered in bullion, and is slightly smaller than skulls that appear on the collar tab (specifically, the raute skull is 7/8 inch tall by 1 inch wide at the bones; whereas the collar tab skull is 1 3/16 in. wide at the bones by 15/16 in. tall — so, not the same size. Another technical difference also is the rendering of the single filament of wire at the head of each bone on the sides of the skull, rather than the two filaments of wire that are observed in the same area as on collar tabs. The tab appears to have never been mounted on a uniform, and it’s in outstanding, minty condition. The silver and black striped piping denotes enlisted ranks and can be seen on the black uniform, or field gray, or even the Earth Brown utility uniforms that sometimes appear in pictures. A real camp item, very special for the SS insignia display. COA accompanies.
