Waffen-SS ,,Wiking” Division Double Runic M40 Helmet
$31,000.00
This is a stunning M40 double runic Waffen-SS helmet, ET66 #5070, formerly of the Wilson History and Research Center. Robert Wilson had obtained the helmet from the Hermann Historica Auction approximately 2010, and had it in his museum collection until his passing. The helmet is an ET66 M40 with well service worn-feldgrau finish, adorned with a set of CA Pocher runic shields; one on the left, one on the right. The liner is a 1940 dated double ply, which fits with the 5k series batch number of ET M40 helmets. The chinstrap is a Carl Tesch 1938 “VA-SS 1938” contract strap, all markings of which are still visible despite the amount of wear. Additionally, the limeer bears a name, which could be deciphered with correct enhancement. Double runic helmets are seen worn prolifically among the Finnish SS formations from the earliest days of the war. They later populated Wiking division, which continued the double runic tradition well into the war-(-in fact these double runics exist in M35, M40 and M42 helmet models). A fine specimen, showing honest combat service wear, strong contender for the top foreign SS/ Wiking Division display. COA accompanies.
