Waffen-SS M40 Double Decal, Dachau Connection
$29,000.00
This helmet was one of two brought back by Colonel Paul Roy, US Army, the senior medical officer in charge of the medical rehabilitation of the thousands of Dachau inmates at the time of liberation in 1945. Colonel Roy’s radio interview transcript printout is included with this helmet.
The helmet itself is a classic early ET66 M40, #5066, with 1940 dated ‘double ply’ liner band. The finish is the classic ET M40 schiefergrau, with an ET pattern runic shield factory applied, and a Pocher party shield garrison applied. Other examples of this exact configuration of decal application on M-40 Double Decal helmets, provenanced from Dachau, exist in references and collections. (This helmet itself has been published in the last 30 years in at least two publications). The liner retains a high excellent condition, and a crisp dome stamp is visible. The chinstrap is a camp made variety, identified by collectors a decade or more ago by their slant-tipped chinstrap, instead of pointed tip. This is another important nuance that is a camp-related identifying data point. One of the finest examples of the M40 double decal, with camp provenance, now available to the market. COA and related documents accompany.
