Excellent Waffen-SS Panzer Wrap, Vet Family Acquired

Here is a fine example of an SS panzer enlisted wrap, sourced by the consignor from the family of the veteran who brought it back. This is an excellent overview of the origin of the wrap, how it came into the collector’s hands, and it is now offered here for sale.
(In the consignor’s words, Quote): “This wrap was sourced from the nephew of a UK veteran who lived in the north of Scotland. The veteran was not a collector; the only German items he had were this wrap (with the collar tabs removed), a pair of SS collar tabs kept in an envelope, and an Iron Cross.
“I initially purchased the collar tabs. During our conversation, he mentioned that he also had the wrap, so I asked him to send it to me for inspection. I shared detailed photographs with respected uniform experts, including Bill Brooks (WAF moderator) who advised that the construction, materials, and overall characteristics were consistent with an original period example.
“I also compared the thread used on the detached collar tabs with the remaining thread around the collar where the tabs had originally been attached. The thread was identical, and when the tabs were positioned on the collar they matched perfectly. Based on this evidence, I was confident the tabs originally belonged to the wrap and I professionally hand-stitched them back into place.
“The wrap remained in my collection for around a year before I sold it to a dealer. I was able to eventually buy the wrap back because I knew it was an exceptional piece.” (End of Quote.)
The condition is entirely consistent with age and honest service wear. There is wear to the nap beneath the arms, across the front, around the cuffs, and along the neckline. The award loops on the front also show evidence of period use. An attempt was made at some point to remove the arm eagle, and while it remains present, it has become detached in places as a result.
Construction details are all consistent with original manufacture. The collar is stitched correctly along the neckline, the burlap reinforcement in the shoulders matches that found in original examples and is not a feature typically seen on reproductions, the buttonholes are professionally made, and the internal pocket tape and lining are all correct for the period.
The wrap is also exceptionally small, roughly equivalent to a modern youth size. It would fit someone around the size of a present-day 12-year-old, making it impractical for reenactment and entirely consistent with the smaller stature of some young Panzer crewmen who served during the period.
