Outstanding RARE Allgemeine-SS / SS-VT Transitional Helmet

You don’t often see these in such great condition, but here it is– an Allgemeine-SS transitional helmet in satin black. The shell is an Austrian M16, outfitted with an early 1930s 3 pad leather liner and sliding buckle chinstrap. The shell is unmarked except for a run number, but the shape resembles the maker BGB product. The satin black finish is sprayed on the outside and around the interior, not using a cardboard template to block the paint from going onto and in the liner. Instead, this example shows a fairly gratuitous coat of paint that extends down into the liner as well. It is not uncommon to encounter this overspray in these helmets, as many were refinished in some haste, especially they were done in batches. The de.\n Cals are a classic CA poker Runic and party Shields nicely installed with some finish wear, resulting from frequent polishing, which was characteristic of the parade nature of these helmets. Sometime in intervening 85 to 90 years, someone has taken a straight pin and scratched across the decals, otherwise they are in fine shape, including showing the inner registry outline of the Runes. In natural light the shield takes on a light brassy tone. But in the light of the pictures, its brilliance blocks out a lot of the natural age tone. Up inside the dome and on the rear skirt are written the name “Postl.” This could potentially be researched, as it may not be that common of a surname. Overall , this is a superb example of an iconic SS helmet, just emerging from a multi-decades collection. COA accompanies.
